Master's degree students in Library and Information Science interested in pursuing an internship or practicum at Cal State University San Marcos should contact Melanie Chu, Outreach Librarian, at mchu@csusm.edu or (760)750-4378.

Duties vary depending on applicant interest, current projects, and supervising librarian availability. Students encouraged to propose internship projects based on interest and experience. Non-credit ongoing volunteer and observation opportunities also available for instruction and reference.

Fall 2008 Internships

  Business Collection Development
Assisting in selection of monographic acquisitions. Creating retention and weeding proposal for business reference print materials. Web page updating and creation. Desired skills are course work or experience in library selection and acquisitions.

  Curriculum Library
Assist in the startup of a new curriculum library. Working with the education librarian and College of Education faculty to help define the role of the new area, evaluate existing collections, create a collection development plan, and establish organization and access procedures.
 
  Indexing
Work with print and microfiche archives of student newspaper (approximately 18 years' worth). Index campus-related articles, create name authority, and related activities to create a file to be posted as part of library archives and website.
 
  Teaching Fellowship
Gain valuable, hands-on classroom experience while earning graduate credit and a stipend. The selected candidate will develop and implement information literacy curriculum, working closely with CSUSM instruction librarians. Spring application
