  • Find a Website on your topic by using either a search engine or a directory
  • Watch the online tutorial again and use their criteria for evaluating the website that you found. Be sure to locate the specific items on the website that allow you to evaluate it as appropriate for college-level research.

  • FIRST: List 3 keywords/search statements and the number of results for each.
    THEN: Find a book in the Catalog or Circuit (do NOT use a video, website or other material for this assignment)
USING THE BOOK YOU FOUND:
  • List all subject headings and briefly explain what you think the book is about. Compare and contrast keyword searching and subject searching. What other ways can you search in the catalog besides keyword and subject searching? What is the relationship of keyword to subject and subject to call number.

  • Watch this searching tutorial. You have to give your name but it will not put you on any list or anything.
  • Find 2 articles-- one scholarly, one popular--  using Academic Search Premier or Lexis Nexis Academic databases.
  • Cite each article in correct APA style:
         Example: Moran, C. (2004, October 3). Report evaluates education progress among local Latinos.San Diego Union Tribune. Retrieved October 15, 2004 from ProQuest Newspapers database.
  • Write an essay (400 words) comparing and contrasting each article explaining which one is scholarly and why it's scholarly. The course guide has a section on Finding articles and on scholarly articles to help you.
  • Be sure to label each citation as to whether it is the scholarly or the popular one.

  • Find a scholarly article that you will be using for your bibliography. Write an annotation for this article. Bring both the annotation and a copy of the article to class.

 

Annotated bibliography. Worth 60 POINTS

  • Using the research, write an annotated bibliography for each article. You must have SIX annotations for at least one books, at least two scholarly articles and one website.

  • Use correct APA style.

 

Review what is OK and what is NOT OK for an annotated bibliography.
