Communication 360

Resources for Midterm Paper

Sources for background on country or area

It is always a good idea to find out something about the country before you get on with your research. This will put the information you do find into some perspective and allow you to interpret it. There are several sources of information on countries.

  • Country Watch provides up-to date information and news on the 191 countries of the world. Includes a key set of political, economic, and business information.
  • CIA Fact Book compiles basic information about countries, such as population, language, religion, etc. This source has a section on communication that can give you a quick guide.
  • Cambridge Encyclopedia of... (print source)
Cambridge has excellent coverage of China, India, Latin America and the Middle East.

  • The TVRadioWorld web site has a wealth of information about radio and TV stations around the world. You also find links to governmental broadcasting agencies. Keep in mind that not all information will be in English.
  • You can search the Radio-Locator for any country's radio stations, and it will list you the stations that are in its database, many times even providing a link to the radio stations homepage.
  • If you cannot find a specific country in the Radio-Locator, you might want to try Web-Radio.
  • Many newspapers have online editions of their print versions online. A great deal of these newspapers have been indexed in Thousands of Newspapers on the Net.
