#4--Genre Search
for Education Journals in the CSUSM Catalog
First--Understand what the genre category is...
A genre heading sorts materials by type, rather than by subject or topic. Let's say you are off-campus and want to find all education journals available in full text that you can access through electronic means, rather than coming to the campus. That would be a GENRE search.
Second--Open the library catalog (simple search will do)

Third--You have options on which genre (format) you want...

Fourth--This search can be refined to fewer hits by using a specific search phrase
The more you ask for, the fewer results, but more relevant to your interests. Keep in mind that the genre headings are custom developed for the CSUSM catalog, so even though the list is constantly growing, specialized searches with this technique may not capture all the titles you could use.

Fifth--Open the list to view the available titles. When you find one of interest, click on it to open the appropriate electronic resource.

Sixth--Click on electronic link to the database listed

You will now be able to search all articles in "Child Development" published from 1985-on
