  • Find a book in the Catalog or Circuit (do NOT use a video, website or other material for this assignment)
  • List 3 keywords and the number of results for each.
  • Cite the book's information in APA style
  • List all subject headings and briefly explain what you think the book is about. How will this book fit into your research?
  • Gather 2-3 quotes from the book that you can use in your paper.
  • What is the difference between searching by subject and searching by keyword? Which one will retrieve more relevant results? Why?

  • Narrow your topic down by answering the who, what, when, where, how questions. Provide a chart similar to this one.
  • Write a thesis statement for this topic using Ozline. Be sure to proofread it so that it is in correct English.
  • Watch this video (3 minutes) on search statements and create one for your topic.
  • List the words, and their synonyms,  that you will be using to search for this topic.

  • Find 2 articles-- one scholarly, one popular--

    Find one using EITHER Academic Search Premier or Lexis Nexis Academic databases.

    Find another using the subject-specific databases discussed in class.

  • Cite each article in APA style
  • Briefly explain why each article is scholarly or popular. The course guide has a section on Finding articles to help you.

  • Review section on "Citing and Documenting Sources" from UCLA's Bruin Success with Less Stress website
  • Take "quiz" at end of section
     
  • At the end of the quiz, you will be asked: "Would you like to email your grade to somebody?"
