GEL Library module Learning Objectives

MODULE OBJECTIVES

1.       Become familiar with the types of materials and services available in the CSUSM library.

2.       Know how to locate material in an academic library. Use the on-line catalog and be able to identify the parts of a online record.

3.       Gain knowledge of the types of subject-specific reference sources available and understand how to use them.

4.       Learn to find an article using a database.  Become familiar with some of the different databases available.

5.       Be able to critically evaluate information for usefulness, bias, currency and authority.

6.    Use a style manual to correctly document information sources in many different formats.

7.    Understand and effectively communicate the steps required for effective research, including formulating a thesis, creating a search strategy using a variety of sources.
