Describes a
research study conducted by University professors, regarding skills employers
seek, and hiring procedures. The book
was published in 2001 and the study was conducted in 1992 to 1995. The authors surveyed and interviewed
employers. The relevant information for
this paper is that women in the workforce who were also paying for child care
reported a 10% penalty in wages. (p. 180).

Annotation 1
Research review conducted by professors at a University
describes reasons why women are at a disadvantage in the computer
workforce. They looked at studies of
mathematic and computer learning, and reentry in the workforce. Since this is a 1990 study new studies may
reveal different trends.

Annotation 2
A report working for Personnel News writes that the
pregnancy and maternity discrimination received the highest number of EOC
discrimination complaints in the last year.
The report quotes a number of high ranking experts and government
officials, and includes survey statistics about people experiencing
discrimination at work. This article is
relevant to the topic because among the acts of discrimination is lowered pay
and missed promotions.

The news article on the web site of the National
Organization for Women describes a recent settlement of a law suit and its
impact on women and wage discrimination.
Since this is political organization material will reflect their
philosophy. It encourages membership and
advocacy of women’s rights.
Summarizing comments about the
research
This is a
challenging and rewarding experience. A
lot of articles I found on the computer are not available from our
library. I had to go through a long list
before I could locate one that our library has. Internet search was exciting. I
thought I knew all about the Web. But I did learn a few more search tricks from
the class.
