What is the Library Research Module?

In this class, and for the rest of your college career, you will be expected to do college-level research. For any research project, college instructors will not accept a list of web sites, but will expect a varied list of quality resources. Over six sessions, you will be introduced to just the basics of library research.

How does this help me in this class?

In this GEL course, you have a research project due. The work you do in the library module will get you started on finding resources for your final project. At the same time, you’ll be learning skills needed for almost every other college course.

What will we learn?

  • How to identify what types of information you need
  • How to find what you need in our Library; how information is organized in a library
  • How to navigate complex academic databases
  • Advanced web searching and evaluating techniques
  • How to assess the information you’ve found
  • What is plagiarism, how to avoid it, and how to use a citation style

Library Module Scoring

You will have a GRADED activity in each class session.

Need help?

Don’t forget, I’m a librarian. My job is to answer questions. We will cover a LOT of information while we are together, so please don’t hesitate to ask questions. In fact, it is those students who ask for help the most that usually do the best work. Speak up in class, email or call me, or stop by my office hours!
