A. Search

Remember that books will give you an overview of an
issue, phenomenon, or population.
B. Find
basic information in reference sources
The
"Needs Assessment" portion of your grant requires data
that illustrate that your program is needed.These are selected sources that may provide basic
information; e.g. demographics, statistics,
definitions.

Find
Research Studies For specific research done on underlying program
theories, funding, and program assessment, search
the databases below.

human services, and related areas, including social

Sociological Abstracts Provides access to the latest international
findings in theoretical and applied sociology,

PsycINFO Available via EbscoHost: A comprehensive international
database of psychology, covering the academic, research,
and practice literature in psychology from over 45
countries in more than 30 languages. Coverage: 1887→current |
ERIC A national database of education literature, including
reports and journal articles. Coverage: 1966→current |
PubMed @ CSUSM The premier database of world biomedical
literature on clinical medicine and preclinical
research.
Medline provides a more user-friendly
interface, but less updated content. |
CINAHL Provides abstracts for articles from 1,700
journals in the fields of nursing and allied
health. |
Statistical data
The 'needs assessment'
portion of the grant proposal/program evaluation
project requires that students articulate a
community's need for their program. Statistical data
may be helpful to do this. Below are some links to
