Research databases
For this course, students will need to use both PubMed and PsycINFO.

PubMed @ CSUSM
Premiere biomedical database. Access through the Library web site in order to connect to our electronic and print holdings, as well as make ILL requests.

Click here for help in searching PubMed.

PubMed search tools

MeSH Database
Medical Subject Headings allow you to search more precisely and move beyond keywords.
Here's a helpful and short how-to clip.

Limits
As you would in PsycINFO, use limits to narrow your search to a particular population or type of information.

PsycINFO
The primary database for scholarly journal articles in psychology.

Biological Abstracts (BIOSIS)
A complete collection of bibliographic references covering life science and biomedical research literature published from more than 4,000 journals internationally. BioOne is collection of about 100 journals in the biosciences and is searchable via Biological Abstracts.

Biological Abstracts & PsycInfo
A combined search of Biological Abstracts and PsycINFO. How does it complement your search in PubMed? Depends on what you are looking for.

Open access journals/databases

PubMed Central (PMC)
The National Library of Medicine's free digital archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature.

Scirus
Use Advanced Search. A science-focused search engine that also searches for journal articles.

GoogleScholar
Google's version of an academic database. Does NOT connect to Library holdings. In order to access the full-text of most articles, go to the library's catalog and search by journal title.
