Cabinet Level Departments

Dept. of Agriculture
Not only agriculture, but food safety, nutrition and health are topics handled by this department.

Dept. of Commerce
National and international trade, business regulations and economic development. The Census Bureau, Patent Office, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Agency, and National Telecommunications & Information Administration are in this department.

Dept. of Defense
All topics to do with the military branches, their activities and support organizations.

Dept. of Education
Education topics and issues including student financial aid, educational technology, vocational and specialized education.

Dept. of Energy
Energy sources, efficiency, conservation, pricing, developing technology and more.

Dept. of Health and Human Services
Health issues including drugs, aging, current health threats, bio-terrorism, disease and healthcare resources.

Dept. of Homeland Security
National security, prevention, response, and recovery. Several units have been transferred here from other agencies (Coast Guard, Secret Service, Citizenship & Immigration.)

Dept. of Housing and Urban Development
Information and aid on home buying and financing as well as the rights of tenants and owners.

Dept. of the Interior
Much of this site was removed in 2004, but is now being restored.
The various bureaus include all that address natural resources (mineral, land and fish and wildlife) as well as Indian Affairs and National Park Service.

Dept. of Justice
The Attorney General has the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and agencies to address prisons and parole issues.

Dept. of Labor
Worker and employer issues and regulations including wages, health plans, unemployment, and job site safety (OSHA). Of special interest is the Occupational Outlook Handbook.

Dept. of State
Oversees the international relations of the United States and general information on other nations, as well as the Foreign Service (embassies and consulates), passports and travel.

Dept. of Transportation
Information and regulations for both commercial and private purposes, including road, rail, waterway, aviation and mass transit.

Dept. of the Treasury
Here is the Internal Revenue Service and related tax agencies, currency and coin design, production and distribution, and management of federal securities through the Bureau of Public Debt.

Dept. of Veterans Affairs
All agencies concerned with helping veterans and their families for health, education and other needs.
