Sources for the 2008 Transition and 2009 Inauguration

With the 2008 national elections over, the new President-Elect, Barack Obama is preparing for his transition to the White House, Inauguration and his selections of new Cabinet and staff. The following sites are some of the sites and news stories about the events surrounding the 44th President's preparation for office.

Transition

Change.gov--the official page for the Obama/Biden transition team and public information on the "America Serves" theme, and other agenda items for the transition. See also the Transition team newsroom.

Presidential Election and Transition 2008--a collection of web sites linking to the presidential team, the Federal-level elections, Inauguration and some non-governmental pages (newspapers from November 5, 2008 and more).

Transition--web page devoted to news releases and statements surrounding the transition from the current Administration's view.

Blogs from the US Government--a number of Federal department and agencies have established blogs and are discussing the transition in terms of their responsibilities. This list is not complete and new blogs can be established at any time, so also try a web search on the specific agency or person for any additional blogs.

 

Inauguration

Joint Congressional Committee on Inauguration Ceremonies--list of activities and ticket request form for the swearing-in ceremony. Individual Congressional members' offices will also have tickets for distribution.

Inauguration Day 2009--Hosted by the District of Columbia to provide information on events, closures, security and other matters affecting the District during the Inauguration.

 

Cabinet and Staff Appointments

Overview of the Administration--Cabinet and agencies with appointments to be made. Link to the GSA's "Transition Directory" is in the right-hand navigation bar.

The President's Cabinet--While written for 9-12 graders, it clearly identifies the various Cabinet agencies, their responsibilities and the appointment process.

 

International

Transition: Forming the Next Government--US Department of State informational outreach to other nations about the incoming administration.

US Embassy List--Many (but not all) US embassies have posted information of interest to their station on the transition.

Reuters News Service--full page of site devoted to articles on the election and transition.

Al-Jazeera (English)--The Americas section includes all US news, but currently much of that is on the incoming administration.

AsiaMedia--Pan-Asian news, use Obama in search box to find reports and articles.

AllAfrica: United States--currently, this page is reporting on reactions to the US election. See additional special topics page for additional information.
