| Commodore Perry and the Westernization of Japan
In conjunction with the Japan Society of San Diego and Tijuana, Kellogg Library will feature Commodore Perry and the Westernization of Japan, an installation tracing the lives of early foreign settlers in Yokohama.
Through the work of renowned photographer Felix Beato, and satirical cartoons of journalist Charles Wirgman, this exhibit seeks to enhance understanding of the Westernization process by showing the stark contrasts between old and new that was visible to the camera’s eye and the cartoonist’s pen during the 1860s.
Exhibit will run from January 18th through March 31, open
during all
library
hours. This exhibit is part of the
Context: Library Series.
