The Newbery Medal is awarded annually by the Association for Library Services to Children, a division of the American Library Association. It was established in 1922 as an incentive for better quality in children’s books and gets its name from John Newbery, a famous 18 th century publisher and seller of children’s books. The medal, which is now donated by the Melcher family, is presented to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children published in the United States in the preceding year.
All books are located in the Juvenile section unless otherwise indicated.
