Chasing Andromeda is the University Library's first ever virtual Context exhibit. It is a moving and powerful photo exhibit by California State University San Marcos alum, Jake Northington. Through his photography, Northington visually challenges the perceptions and negative conditioning that society has of Black people by detailing the many layers of Black beauty and joy, specifically on our CSUSM campus.
Please join us for a virtual event:
- Thursday, October 15, 2020 from 6-7PM
- Registration requested
The panelists include Jake Northington (Photographer), Nancy diBenedetto (School of Arts), Marilyn McWilliams (Office of Inclusive Excellence), John Rawlins III (Black Student Center), Lucy Solomon (School of Arts), Ariel Stevenson (Office of Inclusive Excellence), and Sean Visintainer (University Library, Special Collections).
“As we all know, there has been a great lack in representation of Black people historically and currently in many spaces in society so as an artist I take my opportunity to create art for the positive impact it can make on the lives and well-being of Black people…” ~Jake Northington
Context is an instructionally-related library series supporting student learning and research through art installations.
Questions about the exhibit can be directed to Dr. Toni Olivas, Engagement & Inclusion, firstname.lastname@example.org.
