Meet the Artist

April Ibarra Siqueiros is an artist and user experience (UX) librarian from San Diego, CA, who merges her practices to create zines that encourage readers to reflect, engage in curiosity, and radical imagination. Ibarra Siqueiros’ practice first emerged from attending the Brooklyn Zine Fest in 2014; since then, she’s incorporated zines into various aspects of her life and career. As a librarian, she utilizes them as learning materials while teaching, as well as a format for students to engage with. As a UX designer, she utilizes them to engage in user research, co-creation, and ideation. As an artist, she uses zines to engage with the world around her and hopes to inspire readers to use zines to put things back into their hands and create the content they want to see.

For Ibarra Siqueiros, the practice of zines offers her a modality to experiment with content and techniques, an important aspect of the do-it-yourself (DIY) ethos. Through her zine practice, April Ibarra Siqueiros not only documents and reflects on the world around her but also invites others to do the same, centering curiosity, co-creation, and creativity as essential tools for learning, reflection, and self-expression.
