Instruction

CSUSM Special Collections conducts instruction with CSUSM students and with community organizations. Instruction is course-based or subject-based structured teaching designed to broaden attendees' skill sets to meet their needs. These needs can include academic research, organizational skill building, and project management. 

Instruction provided by CSUSM Special Collections can include the following subjects.

• Primary source instruction, including primary source literacy; use of library tools and technology for primary source research;
• Special Collections and University Archives, including use of collections, tools, and technology for archival research;
• Archives and ethics, silos, and representation;
• Scholarly publication, including copyright, AI, and open access;
• The thesis process, including thesis preparation and ADA compliance;
• Oral history, including methodology and project management;
• Community archives, including preservation and management of community resources.
