University Library Visits for K-12 Students
The CSUSM University Library is committed to the information literacy, critical thinking, and research skills of K-12 students and teachers in our region. Library faculty in our Teaching and Learning department support our regional schools in a few ways. Are you interested in bringing your K-12 students to the Library? Using our information literacy expertise, we offer developmentally-appropriate options for CSUSM University Library visits. Here is how our librarians can help:
Professional Development
If you are a K-12 educator (including classroom teachers, librarians, media specialists, etc...) who would like to learn more about information literacy and college level research, please contact Allison Carr (acarr@csusm.edu) to discuss possible professional development opportunities for your team.
How to Conduct College-Level Research Session for High School Students:
CSUSM Librarians will work with a classroom teacher to determine the research needs of their students’ based on a specific research assignment. Students will learn how to use the Library's databases including building a search strategy, as well as the student-scholar research process as a framework. CSUSM Librarians will work with you, as the classroom teacher, to determine the best resources, and activities based on your research assignment.
General Library Sessions for Middle School Students:
CSUSM Librarians will take students through an exercise in evaluating websites. Students will learn the different criteria for evaluation, and apply it to pre-selected websites.
Library Tour for K-6 Students:
Members of our Outreach Team offer short tours of the library which will introduce younger students to our building and visit to our current Context exhibit.
*Priority will be given to our community partner districts through the Alliance, tribal partners, and CSUSM campus partners.
